Compiling Music Clips/Samples

Hi guys,

Does anyone know how to compile music clips into one file, for example, compiling recordings for a video of a certain singer's vocal range? You've probably seen videos like that on Youtube. Someone will put a whole bunch of clips together, in which a singer showcases a different musical note throughout his/her entire range. I'd love to make one for a singer whose range hasn't been shared on Youtube before, and I have gotten permission to do so from his manager. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks so much!

I think your best bet would be to use audio editing software such as audacity or Reaper to isolate clips from a selection of tracks demonstrating the range you want, then lay them into a single track. Depending on how professional you want to be, using fades or other effects to transition from one clip to another would help the seamless progression of the entire track.

Can you explain how to select the clips I want from each track and then paste them into a new file? Thanks so much!

It really depends on what software you're working with. I'd suggest Audacity as it is really easy to use once you get the keyboard commands figured out. You can basically use shift left and right arrows to select the part of the clip you want, then the usual cut and copy commands to ... well, cut and copy.:) There's a bit more to it than that, because audacity has an editing cursor and an audio playback cursor, but if you go that route I don't mind explaining further. Probably not best to do so over a message board as it would be helpful to do it in real-time, but I'm pretty familiar with the ins and outs of audacity. if you want proof, on Writer's Block I've posted a sample project under the title "Oppinions desired from audiobook and audio theatre enthusias} - yes, I unfortunately spelled that wrong.:)

I use Golde Wave. The trick is to splice and edit just right so there are no glitches in between files.
